Alicia Silverstone vegetarian

Well, this is just something I had to post on my blog: Alicia Silverstone naked in a PETA campaign.

It has become quite famous in a short time. I can see why...
I do not always agree with the methods of PETA, but you can't deny that they are able to create a stir and bring up the subject of vegetarianism with the general public.

Bambi killers

OK, there's not much I can say about this. The images speak for themselves. I'm glad I am a vegetarian when looking at images like this.

Brutal slaughter of deer

See it for yourself.

Rose McGowan has a heart for animals

A few days ago I directed my blogging spotlights on the lovely vegetarian and animal activist Alyssa Milano. So I thought, why not write about Rose McGowan? Why not, I'm watching Charmed DVD's anyhow and am totally in a supernatural, charmy mood.

Rose McGowan became world famous for her role as Paige Matthews in the supernatural-themed show 'Charmed'. Throughout the 90's she appeared in a variety of independent films such as 'Southie' or 'Going all the way.' But acting is not all she does. She was the face of the clothing company Bebe and appears regulary in the sexiest womens lists of Stuff. As well as being featured on FHM or Maxim.

Enough about that. If you want to know more about her career or her Italian origins (I'm feeling the urge to study italian), please visit Wikipedia.

The reason I am putting her in the shining, bright spotlights of my own personal little blogosphere is here heart for animals and her involvement with the BTRN, or 'The Boston Terrier Rescue Network'. This organization aims to help Boston terriers everywhere and is supported by animal lover and Boston Terrier enthousiast Rose McGowan.

It all started several years ago when she ran into a Terrier living in dyre conditions. She fell in love with the dog and this was the beginning of the story. She eventually bought the dog and lucky he was do have found a good home. And just in the nick of time, no doubt about that. When she bought or 'rescued' the dog, it had an eye infection, a piece of metal in it's stomach and several other afflictions and health problems. Later she began surfing on-line and found rescue organizations such as BTRN and decided to start donating. If you want to know more about BTRN please click on the link.

And as it would seem, the dogs like Paige Matthews/Rose McGowan too!

sick and disgusting...

...There are no other words for what I just found online while surfing. This is one of the sickest stories about animal cruelty that I have ever heard of. You can read about it here.

What person in their right mind tortures animals to death during sex and smears the blood over their naked bodies? How in the name of God do you even come up with something like this? Do you wake up in the middle of the night and go like: 'hey honey, lets try something different tonight, lets make some voodoo dolls and...'

I wonder what drives people to do such atrocious acts as pinning live animals to a board and torturing them to death, or killing a live chicken while having sex or brutally slaughter a parakeet. And on top of that this couple had children!

The cruelty against animals knows no limits.

Alyssa Milano has a heart for animals

Now and then I put an animal friendly celebrity in the spotlight. Today, it's Alyssa Milano's turn. The stunningly good looking actress known for her role as Phoebe in the hit tv-show Charmed and her role in Who's the boss is not only a talented actress, but a vegetarian and animal lover as well.

She showed her heart for the animal kingdom by appearing in an ad to promote an animal friendly lifestyle for PETA Europe. She appeared in Animal Times dressed in a gown by Mia Gyzander made entirely out of lettuce.

On top of that the beautiful Italian-American actress is not only a vegetarian but is also standing up for human rights as an national ambassador for UNICEF.

For those who are interested: I have been blogging a bit about canadian sealing on my Wordpress blog. Well, it's more of a rant actually. I can just get so angry sometimes about these things. A conscience is something that is easy to lose I guess. Feel free to visit.

Matthew Scully: animal rights

When you think of vegetarians and animal rights, most people automatically think of the political left, that is usually associated with animal activism, legislation and environmentalism. But, this is not entirely justified. On the conservative front you can just as easily find animal advocates. One such a conservative vegetarian is Matthew Scully.

Active in the political right he was a speechwriter in the elections of 2000 and served as a speechwriter and special assistant for George W. Bush from 2001 to 2004.

Since the 1970's he has been a vegetarian, ever since he saw the awful pictures and images of animals suffering in the modern day animal factories he decided to go meatless.

As author of the highly acclaimed book "Dominion: The Power of Man, the Suffering of Animals, and the Call to Mercy" he draws the attetion of the public eye to the fate of the billions of animals suffering and dying. The reviews of his work were very positive and justly so. The National Review described Dominion as "A fascinating and disturbing read." I can't do anything else but agree. He hits the nail on the head in his books and in the articles on his homesite. Written from a conservative viewpoint, it shows that you don't have to be progressive, to be animal friendly.
